Eagle Eye Billiards and Seven Feathers Casino hosted an all Players Club handicapped event on June 6-8. Players came to compete from Coos Bay, Roseburg and Grants Pass. There was a noticeable absence of players from Medford this time although all that came and competed had a great time.
Friday night the Handicapped Singles got underway. There were two divisions of singles, 8 and below and 9 and above. Players played 5 games and added balls pocketed to their handicap received to see who won the match. In the 8 and below division, Rick Tillet from Coos Bay cruised through the field undefeated to claim the $500 prize. Rick began by defeating Rick Peckham, Donny, Josh and Nathan to secure his spot in the finals. Josh after his defeat went to the left side of the board and ended the tournament hopes of Rick, Ken E. and Nathan. In the finals, Josh won the first set to force the second and deciding set, but Rick did not let his opportunity get away and claimed the title.
8& Below Results
1st - $500 – Rick Tillet
2nd- $200 – Josh
3rd - $120 – Nathan
4th - $75 – Ken Embshaff
In the 9 and Above division Ric Couch, also of Coos Bay stormed to the hotseat with wins over Nicola Davies, Mark Fenn, and Bret Baker. Rick waited over night to see who he would face in the finals. Saturday morning brought about a battle between Bret Baker and Randy Baker (no relation) to see who would advance to the finals. In a very close match Randy squeaked out the victory to earn his shot at Ric and leaving Bret to settle for a third place finish. The finals turned out to be nothing as neither player wanted to play for the title and the two teammates split first and second place money.
9 & Above Results
2nd tie - $300 ea. – Ric Couch & Randy Baker
3rd - $100 – Bret Baker
Saturday was team day. Six teams did battle to see who the champions would be. When all the dust settled it was Jessie’s from Coos Bay who went to the hotseat undefeated. Jessie’s got there by defeating Corner Pocket, Barn Burners and Eagle Eye. On The Snap, the team from Roseburg survived the loser’s bracket to earn their shot at Jessie’s and won the first set to force the second and deciding set.. The second set came down to the final game with On The Snap needing a win and Jessie’s only needing 5 balls. Eli from On The Snap ran down to the winning 8 ball but did not have a clear shot at a pocket. He attempted a carom off one of his opponent’s balls but could not get the ball to fall. That allowed Jessie’s to pocket the need balls to win the title! Team Results
1st - $500 – Jessie’s (Coos Bay)
2nd - $300 – On The Snap (Roseburg)
3rd - $175 – Eagle Eye (Grants Pass)
Sunday arrived with only the Handicapped Scotch Doubles left to finish off the weekend of fun. The team of Eli/Gary went undefeated to the hotseat with wins over Randel/Gary, Bernie/Julie, Donny/Marc and Rick/Randy. Donny/Marc earned their shot at the finals with a win over Rick/Randy to leave them with a respectable 3rd place finish. This time we knew a team from Coos Bay was not going to take every title over the three days. Eli/Gary from Roseburg kept up their great play and defeated Donny/Marc from Grants Pass to win the Doubles title.
Scotch Doubles Results
1st – Eli/Gary
2nd – Donny/Marc
